The group was formed following a public meeting arranged by Tŷ Siamas in November 2006. Local businesses volunteered to develop a collective marketing group and formed a steering committee.

The group has adopted the name ‘DISCOVER DOLGELLAU’ or ‘DARGANFOD DOLGELLAU’ and has been working to establish the group as a committed, funded entity, prior to launching publicly and recruiting other members from within the business community. The group is open to any local business to join and members currently include Ffynnon, Tŷ Siamas, Tŷ Seren, Waterloo, Maes Yr Helmau Cottages, Torrent Walk Cottages, Dolgun Uchaf and Cader View Lodges Graig Wen at Arthog and Coed Cae B & B/ Snowbikers at Taicynhaeaf.

The group is a sub-committee of the Dolgellau Partnership and therefore has the support of the various organisations represented on the Partnership.

The group’s constitution sets outs its mission statement as:

"Discover Dolgellau aims to position and promote Dolgellau as a destination of choice at the heart of Wales, thereby increasing income generation opportunities for businesses in the tourism and related industries in the Dolgellau area."

Discover Dolgellau will:
• promote the people, the businesses and the attractions of Dolgellau town and the immediate surrounding area to a world-wide audience
• attract more visitors/visitor spend to Dolgellau and the local area by creating and promoting a distinctive brand to appeal to our target markets

To date the group has:
• attracted funding and support from various sources including Dolgellau Town Council, Tourism Partnership Mid Wales, The Forestry Commission and local businesses
• commissioned research to identify what visitors to the town needed and to prioritize our projects
• set up and started to promote a dedicated web site which is
   - promoting the attractions of Dolgellau and the local area to our visitor markets
   - providing local information for both residents, visitors and potential investors
• created a Dolgellau area guide for distribution and sale at targeted outlets in the region

Further plans, subject to funding, include improving signage and a podcast.

Cost: £50 per annum

    - Access to media coverage through Press for Travel
If you would like to become actively involved, we have monthly meetings to discuss the projects we are currently working on and also to decide on future projects. All members are welcome.

Enhanced Listing on the website (non members)
Cost: £30 per annum
Includes:
    - A full page listing on the website to detail your business including photographs.
