dolgellau partnership

Dolgellau Partnership was established in 2001 following a public meeting in the town and since then has been responsible for the implementation of projects and generation of ideas to improve the environment and economy in Dolgellau and surrounding areas.

The Partnership’s work covers Dolgellau, Brithdir, Llanelltyd, Ganllwyd, Rhydymain, Arthog and Llanfachreth and is carried out by volunteers representing local businesses, shops and organizations as well as members of Gwynedd Council, Dolgellau Town Council and the area’s community councils.

The Partnership seeks to undertake projects which will help to:

• Improve opportunities in the retail sector
• Develop high quality tourism in the area
• Enhance the town’s appearance and appeal
• Create employment opportunities in the area
• Create leisure opportunities in the area
• Safeguard the local spirit of community and co-operation
• Improve the natural and built environment
• Improve transportation links and services
• Develop Dolgellau as ‘Wales Cycling Centre’
• Support the agricultural sector

Some of these projects include:

Discover Dolgellau Website
A bi-lingual, information site being developed by the local tourism group to promote Dolgellau, encourage tourism and provide the local community with valuable information about the area.

Dolgellau Farmers Market
The monthly farmers market has been established to provide food producers with a channel to sell their produce direct to the public. Although an invaluable local resource the market also attracts visitors into the town and has been instrumental in establishing Dolgellau as an important food destination.

The Quakers Trail
Nearing completion, this project has involved the establishment of a trail around the homes, cemeteries and other significant places associated with the history of the Quakers in Dolgellau and Llwyngwril. Information boards have been erected in key locations and a map and leaflet is being developed to promote the route.

Town Park
Probably one of the town’s most well-known and emotive projects, the Dolgellau Park became the focus of much attention after the group responsible for its development succeeding in securing a significant grant from the People’s Lottery to develop the children’s play area. Although there is still much to do to make this a reality, it is hoped the first stage of building work will commence shortly.

Coed Ffynnon Fair
A recently completed project, this initiative has enabled the Ffynnon Fair woodland to the south of the town to be bought and improved for the benefit of the community and to safeguard it against future development. Work has been carried out to protect the trees, restore boundaries and improve footpaths as well as renovate the well which once provided the town’s water supply.
